Hot Water Bottle Safety Standards

All hot water bottles must comply with British Safety Standard BS 1970:2012.

This standard ensures the product is manufactured and tested to strict safety guidelines and that consumers are given clear instructions for safe use and storage.

Understanding the Daisy Wheel

The daisy wheel, usually located near the bottle neck or stopper, shows the production date:

  • Centre number = year of manufacture
  • Petals = months
  • Dots inside petals = week of the month

E.g. A daisy wheel showing "2024" in the centre, with a marked
petal for November and 3 dots, means it was made in the third

week of November 2024.

Replace your hot water bottle every 2 years from first use.

➤ Always inspect before filling.

BS 1970:2012 - What to Look For

  • British Standard Mark

The current standard BS 1970:2012 must be clearly marked on the hot water bottle.

  • Manufacturer's Mark

Ensures traceability – must be clearly visible on the product.

  • User Instructions

Safety guidelines must be printed on the packaging.
